Courtesy Visit by University of the Philippines Delegation

On May 26, the University of Tsukuba welcomed a delegation from the University of the Philippines (UP) system, led by President Angelo Jimenez, Chancellor Jose Camacho Jr. of UP Los Ba?os, and Vice President for Academic Affairs Leo D.P. Cubillan. The meeting with President NAGATA Kyosuke and Vice President for Global Affairs OHNEDA Osamu was held at the University of Tsukuba Tokyo Campus to discuss potential collaboration in research and education.
The University of Tsukuba introduced its key strengths, including risk resilience, nuclear fusion research through the Plasma Research Center, and advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) in collaboration with industry. Both institutions affirmed a shared educational philosophy centered on problem-based learning. President NAGATA also presented the University of Tsukuba, Malaysia (UTMy) in Kuala Lumpur, a fully university-operated institution awarding Japanese degrees, as part of its ongoing internationalization efforts.
Looking ahead, both universities expressed strong interest in building collaboration. As initial steps, they plan to identify specific research themes, explore student and faculty exchanges, and continue discussions to deepen academic ties.
