The 13th Japan-China-Korea International Postgraduate Academic Symposium

With the joint effort of China Agricultural University and Korea University, the 13th Japan-China-Korea International Postgraduate Academic Symposium (Online Conference) was held on September 24 and 25. This was a yearly event by the Degree Programs in Life and Earth Sciences since 2008, but last year, it was postponed due to the spread of COVID-19. Online Conference was the first try for us.

Student leaders were Ms. Richards Delmaria (Doctoral Program in Environmental Studies), Ms. Yunxin Zhu (Doctoral Program in Bioindustrial Sciences), and Mr.Hirokazu Komazaki (Master's Program in Geosciences), who arranged the presentation practice for the participants. With the advice of the professors, their slides became easier to understand.

On the opening ceremony, Prof. YAMAOKA Yuichi gave a keynote speech, as well as Prof. Yong Sik Ok (Korea University), Prof. Renjie Dong (China Agricultural University). Dividing into 6 groups, the presentations were made in the following 3 sessions: 'Agronomy and Biology', 'Earth Science and Geography', and 'Environment Science and Technology'.

The total number of participants was 101. 29 from Japan (21 from University of Tsukuba and the rest from 3 universities), 67 from China (20 from CAU and 15 from China University of Geosciences, Beijing, the rest from 7 universities), 4 from Korea (Korea University), 1 from Denmark (Technical University of Denmark).

7 students from our university completed the task as a Chair, becoming a pair of another student. They supported the presenter having trouble changing the slide, giving a question when there was no question from the audience.

Many students listened to other's presentations carefully and were trying to learn something new.

The award winners from the University of Tsukuba were as follows:

The sessions finished successfully without any problems, as we have been prepared well, trying some connecting tests beforehand.

Next year, we will be the main host and arrange the online conference. One of the things to challenge is setting a time somehow to communicate for participants each other. We hope this will always be the place for the students to improve their presentation, as well as to enjoy mixing with the students from China and Korea.
