University of Tsukuba Kendo Club Claims Victory at the 65th All Japan University KENDO Championship


The 65th All Japan University KENDO Championship was held at Nippon Budokan on October 29. The University of Tsukuba Kendo Club claimed victory at the tournament. It was the first championship in two years, and was the 13th victory in its history.


Members of the Kendo Club made a courtesy visit to President Kyosuke Nagata and Vice President Shin-ichi Tamagawa on November 21 to report the result of the tournament. The following members of the Kendo Club attended the courtesy visit. All were in the School of Health and Physical Education: Fourth-year students, including Mr. Takasi Horikawa, Mr. Yoichiro Sasaki, Mr. Takuma Yamashita, Mr. Kohei Nishiyama; third-year students including Mr. Ayumi Tagaya, Mr. Takehiro Tauchi, Mr. Kensuke Motai, Mr. Hyou Hatta; and a first-year student Mr. Keita Hoshiko.
Club members were accompanied to the courtesy visit by Professor Hisashi Sanada, Provost of the School of Health and Physical Education, Professor Kunihide Kohda (Kendo Club Manager), and Associate Professor Takahiro Nabeyama (Kendo Club General Manager).


All attendees at the courtesy visit reminisced about the events with the board members. At the end of the meeting, President Nagata and Vice President Tamagawa praised the students for their performance and offered them encouraging words.
