President Nagata and University Hospital Director Matsumura give talks at Brazil-Japan Seminar on Scientific Cooperation

On June 9, 2017, President Kyosuke Nagata, together with Director Akira Matsumura of the University of Tsukuba Hospital, gave presentations on their specialized fields ? viral disease control and proton therapy & Boron neutron capture therapy for neurological disorders, respectively, during the "Seminar on Scientific Cooperation between Brazil - Japan" held at the University of Sao Paulo (USP) in Brazil. The symposium was held collaboratively by USP and Santa Cruz Hospital from the Brazilian side, and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) and University of Tsukuba from the Japanese side. Researchers from both USP and University of Tsukuba gave presentations on their research in the medical sciences. Prof. Dr. Masato Ninomiya of the USP Law School and President of the Deliberative Council of the Santa Cruz Hospital, discussed the relationship between Brazil and Japan. Aside from his research presentation, President Nagata also announced the active collaborations going on between Brazilian research and educational institutions and the University of Tsukuba. Each representative of the partner institutions gave warm remarks during the opening part: Vice Dean Vahan Agopyan of USP, Director Jose Otavio Costa Auler Jr. of the Faculty of Medicine of USP (FMUSP), President Renato Ishikawa of Santa Cruz Hospital, and Consul General Takahiro Nakamae of the Japanese Consulate in Sao Paulo. They all expressed hope that this symposium would be an opportunity that will lead to revitalized human resource exchanges between Brazil and Japan, as well as research exchange among participating universities and organizations.


The University of Tsukuba has concluded a Campus-in-Campus (CiC) partnership agreement with USP and a departmental exchange agreement with Santa Cruz Hospital. With these formalized agreements, it hopes to further promote the exchange of students, faculty, staff, and researchers in the future.
